Corporate Responsibility

Cable Bahamas Ltd. is committed to the principles of good corporate governance. The company has in place an Audit Committee which reports to the Board of Directors. The Audit Committee has broad oversight of the company's operations. Extensive internal control procedures form an integral part of the organization and ensure the accuracy of financial information and the legitimacy of all transactions. An annual audit is conducted by an independent professional auditing firm and provides an opinion as to whether the financial results are in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards. The company's in-house legal counsel oversees the company and ensures that it consistently complies with various laws, regulations and policies.

Social Responsibility

The Cable Bahamas Cares Foundation (CBCF) is the company’s vehicle through which the educational, social and cultural development of the people of the Bahamas is encouraged and supported.   

The company funds the foundation by providing a committed percentage of profits annually. CBCF is a non-profit charitable funding organization, specifically focused on the funding of youth-oriented individual and organizational educational programmes and proactive positive community projects, including educational research publications. Since its inception, CBCF has received a total endowment of $1,809,045 and has disbursed $1,805,537 through the awarding of 324 grants to local community organizations, as well as individual students. CBCF passed the $1,000,000 mark in grant award dollars awarded in 2008. The average grant has been $5,218. The foundation holds formal board meetings on a quarterly basis.

All grant recipients have the option of being featured on the Cable 12 original show, The Cable Cares Show, a 30-minute talk show seen monthly on Cable 12.

The Company and its employees also give of their time and resources to other charitable organizations such as the U.S. Embassy Primary School Reading Initiative and the annual Food Drive for The Salvation Army.
