Blaine R. Schafer, Vice President, Information & Telecom Services

Mr. Schafer brings over 37 years of communications industry experience to Cable Bahamas. A native of Canada, he joined Caribbean Crossings in January 2006. Prior to this he was Manager of Network Operations for SaskTel, a Canadian owned Telecommunications company. While with SaskTel, Mr. Schafer assisted with the launch of IPTV service by ensuring a stable IP Network infrastructure. From 1997–2000, Mr. Schafer held the position of Chief Technology Officer with Saturn Communications a Cable TV operator in Wellington, New Zealand. During this three year period Mr. Schafer led the construction of an 110,000 home, HFC Network with a copper overlay enabling Saturn Communications to be one of the first communication companies in the world to offer a triple play (Cable TV, Telephone and Internet). While with Saturn, Mr. Schafer played an active role in conceptualizing a 900 km festooned subsea fiber-optic Cable system allowing expansion into other New Zealand markets.
