What do I get with CoralWave?
CoralWave is your connection to the Internet. In basic terms you can browse the web, email and chat, share photos, movies and music, shop and keep up to date.

CoralWave's Internet connection allows you to do all this because it is 'broadband', a fast Internet connection. This allows you to do more, quickly, and to interact in many ways at the same time.

CoralWave also has super-strength email, and plenty disk space–so you can keep files off your computer where they can be shared, or for secure backups of your important data.
How do I get on the Internet?
Generally, you are always on CoralWave. As such to interact with it, you just need to run a program such as a web browser or email program.

Your computer needs a unique number to interact with the Internet. Very similar to a phone number. The computers you interact with, through a web browser or email program for example, also need their own number. It is known as an IP address (Internet protocol address).

This number is provided via your Cable modem by a box known as a router which acts like a telephone exchange. If your Cable modem, the computer port connecting the Cable modem to your computer, Windows (or Macintosh) software system, or our cables or boxes are all working you are connected to the Internet whenever your computer is on.
How does a cable modem work?
Cable modems operate as their name suggests, by MOdulating and DEModulating Cable transmission signals. Cable Bahamas’ state-of-the-art headend unit, receives the high-bandwidth data from the Internet and transfers it to your home. The customer's cable modem receives the high-speed data and the Ethernet card translates the data to your computer.
How do I collect e-mail when away from my PC?
Retrieving e-mail while away from your PC requires that you at least have internet access. Visit the CoralWave Message Center and enter the information required. Logoff when done.
What is bandwidth?
Bandwidth is used to express how much data is available on a given transmission path. This is usually measured in bits-per-second. A full page of English text is about 16,000 bits. A cable modem can move up to 1,000,000 bits in one second!
How do I protect against e-mail viruses?
Read our Internet Security section for details.
Why does my connection speed vary?
Like a real highway, the internet is subject to speed peaks and temporary slowdowns based on varying factors including time of day, network hardware limitations and other obstacles. CoralWave service is committed to optimal service 24 hours a day.
Can I share a cable modem between computers?
Yes, this can be done at an additional charge of $10 per month and requires a network hub. Subscribers should contact Customer Support for details.
How do I upgrade my CoralWave service?
Contact our Customer Support staff for full particulars.
How secure is CoralWave?
Very secure. Our service poses no greater security risk than a dial-up connection or DSL services that may be offered by the telephone company. Our advanced DOCSIS cable modems ensure that your connection to the Internet is private and secure. However, once data travels the Internet, whether a cable or telephone customer, they are in a shared network that is more vulnerable to interception. There are simple precautions that all Internet users should take to protect themselves.
Can other people access my files or read my mail?
NO. The advanced cable modems that we use have been configured with customer privacy concerns in mind. Combined with a few simple precautions that all Internet users should follow, your files will remain secure.
But your customers do share the network, don't they?
The downstream broadband delivery is like a major highway - it is shared as a means of distribution only - the content remains isolated and secure. The actual packets of information are delivered via dedicated time slots allocated specifically to you - and only accessed via your code and address. No-one else sees this information as it travels the broadband to your home.
How do I reset my modem?
Confirm that your Cable TV service is active. Check all connections to your modem as well as the cable going from your modem to your ethernet card. Unplug the power cable from the modem for 20 seconds and replace. Check for indicator activity on front of modem. Wait a few minutes for service restoration. If problem persists please contact Technical Support at 356-8900 for assistance.
