73 active cell sites now provide 99 per cent population coverage on New Providence, 80 per cent on Grand Bahama
Damian Blackburn, NewCo CEO said, “With great pride I can share with you that all of the 73 sites are now installed, active and carrying service. This week several calls have been placed, we have now issued phones and NewCo SIMs to staff members and they are actively using the service to call each other, send SMS and browse the Internet with impressive speeds.”
The NewCo back-up system is already installed in Freeport and will mirror the system in New Providence, ensuring there will be no single point of failure. Significant progress is being made in terms of installation and integration on all key IT systems.
Blackburn continued, “We are in the process of providing URCA with all relevant information that shows we have met our three month 99 per cent population coverage obligation on New Providence and 80 per cent on Grand Bahama. Our progress to date highlights our clear focus on delivering for the people. Now that we have achieved this milestone, we have our sights clearly set on our full commercial launch and the reveal of our exciting new brand.”
URCA issued the license to NewCo on July 1st and required NewCo to have 99 per cent coverage within three months of license issue. The first coverage obligation has been met with site completion delivered by NewCo in record time. The public can now apply to use the service from October 1st and further details are available at www.cablebahamas.com/REVmobile as part of the soft launch phase.
The NewCo CEO concluded that “delivery of our first coverage obligation is one small step for NewCo… and one giant leap forwards in terms of choice, value and reliability within the telecommunications sector. NewCo is operational. Newco is in service. NewCo is delivering on the commitments made to URCA as part of the regulatory requirement. NewCo is delivering on the commitments made to the Bahamian public.”
